Important update – Covid-19 Response

As we see the further changes impact our lives in every way as a result of COVID-19, CRCC understands that we are all in uncertain times. We know for people already living with the effects of trauma, these changes are more difficult to navigate.

All services provided by CRCC (as details below) have now resumed face to face. Please give us call for further information.

Call Outs to Police to report sexual violence, and access to forensic services will still occur 24 hours a day, 7 days per week. The 24 hour Call Out line remains fully operational. Forensic medical services will be attended by CRCC, where directed by the Police and the Forensic and Medical Sexual Assault Care(FAMSAC)

1800RESPECT continues to operate normally for those impacted by sexual or domestic violence.

The CRCC Crisis Line (62472525) is available  from 7 am-11 pm 7 days per week for:

  • Immediate assistance related to recent sexual violence including services provided by Police and FAMSAC
  • Those struggling with impacts of trauma from long ago
  • Those who have remembered abuse for the first time
  • Those who struggle daily with the effects and impacts of complex trauma
  • Information, support, referral for victims of sexual assault and their supporters- as well as professionals, organisations and community groups.
  • Information and support about Redress Services
  • Support and information for those impacted by sexual misconduct in sports- 1800 ASC HELP(1800 272 4357)
  • Crisis Intervention, crisis support
  • Support for non-offending parents, carers and concerned adults who have had disclosures of sexual assault from their children, children in their care or children that they know. This also includes disclosures from young people.
  • People feeling the impacts of trauma are compounded by COVID-19

  • Women, young people, children, and families- as well as their supporters

  • Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community members, through NGURU
  • Survivors of child sexual abuse within institutions seeking Redress Support Services

CRCC is able to be flexible to continue to provide services to clients and the community. We will communicate any adjustments throughout networks as we all navigate the weeks and months ahead.

Getting Help

If you have been impacted by sexual assault, you can contact SAMSSA by phoning the Canberra Rape Crisis Centre on (02) 6247 2525. SAMSSA is available to support people who have  been impacted by sexual abuse (rape, childhood sexual abuse, organised  abuse or sexual harassment) whether it is a recent assault or an assault that happened years ago.

The Service Assisting Male Survivors of Sexual Assault offers counselling and support to men over the age of 16 in the ACT and surrounding region.

Furapy Healing Puppies

Furapy & Healing Puppies assists to train and certify suitable puppies for Service Dog or Therapy Dog status. Our training method is based on positive voice reward. Training is available for clients of CRCC / SAMSSA and people not already engaged with CRCC wanting to train their own pups. We are able to train and/or assess for the Public Access Test for ACT Legislation, under Transport and Animal Management. Please contact CRCC for further details. Furapy & Healing Puppies also have Therapy Dogs that are available for our clients undergoing trauma therapy with CRCC. The pups visits schools for education purposes, as well as Community Engagement training, and can go on Call Outs to Police to support victims of sexual violence.

Education & training

SAMSSA provides information, education, and training to community members, & other non-government members, government agencies, service providers and schools about the effects & responses to sexual violence against women, children & men.
